India Women coaches Purnima Rau, Suman Sharma Sacked – Purnima Rau & Suman Sharma, India Women’s head and assistant coach respectively have been sacked from their duties two months prior to ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 in England. As the replacements for Rau, Tushar Arothe, former Baroda batsman will take charge. (Also Read: India Team Squad & Players List For ICC Champions Trophy 2017 )
India is scheduled to play a quadrangular series against South Africa, Zimbabwe and Ireland in South Africa in May before the World Cup.
Rau, allrounder, represented India in five Test and 33 One Day Internationals picking up 15 & 50 wickets respectively. She managed to score 123 runs in the longer format and also picked up 516 runs in ODIs at an average of 21.50.
Purnima Rau was appointed as head coach in 2014. She was relieved of her duties after India were knocked out of T20 World Cup played in Bangladesh. Rau was again given charge back in 2015. Under Rau, India went on to beat Australia 2-1 in T20 series early in 2016 and also lifted Asia Cup in Thailand in late 2016. Indian women also went on to win ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier in Sri Lanka to qualify for World Cup to be played later this year.
ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 is scheduled to start from 24th June. Indian Women are scheduled to face hosts on the opening day of ICC Women’s WC 2017.
